Does our company determine our character?

Good Morning,

Tonight's study will begin a section of Acts that deals with some specific examples of how the early church dealt with persecution from the outside, pollution from within, and politics in the body of believers.

However, my favorite verses in these chapters come from chapter 4, "They took note that they had been with Jesus." What stood out to the religious leaders was the fact that these men (Peter and John) reminded them of Jesus.

Ever notice how easy it is to be negative around negative people or how you can just slide into being positive in a positive group? Of course, we are all human! Time with the Lord, time in His Word will effect you. In Hebrews 4 we are reminded the the Word is living and active, spend time with Him and people will notice.

God bless,

John

This study of Acts has been very enlightening. What an awesome thought that we, as mere humans with all of our inherent faults, might actually be able to remind someone of Jesus! We must really think about this: By truly believing in Jesus Christ as Lord of our lives, we are actively and effectively cleared from guilt; we are basically led out of the prison that is the bondage of the Law. Thanks to the cleansing blood of our Savior King we are freed from sin and can walk around as free men and women. When we, as believing Christians, live a life of willful repentance for our sins, keeping a positive attitude and our eyes focused on the hope in Christ set before us, the light of Christ will begin to shine in hearts and people will actually be able to see a slight glimmer of Jesus’ glory in us! Looking forward anxiously to the study in Hebrews and the thought that all the blessings we would have had if we had kept the Law are ours, because Christ has kept it for us.

Life Through the Spirit
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit. – Romans 8:1-4
